Yes it simply looks like Booth is on a new mission! This pilot is taking quite a while to film it seems? Or maybe it just seems that way because there is no Bones to think about anymore! DB is away from the family for quite a bit. Maybe they are not in NO anymore? Who knows!
From what I can gather from Instagram posts, DB is definitely still in NO and his family is in L.A. Jaime has been posting pictures of Bella and horses on the weekend, and just this morning she posted Jaden in a high school hockey game. DB has been commenting on her posts.
It is a long time to be away, but it sounds like they have been filming night and day and all through the weekends, so he probably barely has a chance to breathe. Even his mom commented on the Insta post with the dog, and said “Love getting your pictures. Looking great.”
I’m curious what will happen if the show gets picked up…will it still be filmed in NO? A pilot is one thing, but filming a whole series out of town would be tough, I would think.
According to this Insta post from March 12, this actor from the Seals cast is going to New Orleans for a month for filming.

Yeah who knows? All I know about him is he is very Catholic, basically Booth in real life, but that may have nothing to do with it. I bet that happens alot in pilot season though and we don’t hear about it, could be since DB is coming off of Bones and Buffy news, it hit the press?
Yep it does, cast change all the time, sometimes even after the pilot has been shot….Even with Bones’ The Finder they changed the female cast after they shot the pilot when it went to series.
Yeah, some people are saying that he probably balked at love scenes he was being asked to do, but others are saying that he would have known what was required in that department before he signed on for the role, unless the producers changed the rules after he got there.

Yes that is sad I’m not ready for it, and it will be even worse if it is that girl from Mad Men. She is awful. Maybe she’s been taking acting lessons. I would guess THAT is more likely a reason that JC quit. But you would think they would have replaced her, unless of course she’s got a ‘in’ with the pilot that trumped him? DB hasn’t been posting pictures of him with the female cast. Maybe he knows that part will be hard for his fans?

That was my thought as well. Anything JC filmed would have to be redone. I did notice that Deadline announced JC’s casting on 3/14 and then DB replacing him on 3/22, so only eight days had passed (unless JC had been cast for awhile but it wasn’t announced for some reason…I don’t know how these things work.) I guess my point is that perhaps JC was only involved in discussions and rehearsals and not so much filming before he departed.

Well, right after the DB casting news came out, I saw that the Australia Supernova event retweeted that DB would be the guest. It’s in late April, so the pilot filming will probably be over by then, but DB won’t have much of a breather. I wonder if he is taking his family with him? I’ve seen people tweeting DB directly asking him to confirm that he is still attending, but he hasn’t answered anyone as far as I can see.
Maybe they should recast the female lead as Michaela! Lol ok that would be even weirder than a random actress! I’d love it if DB could get one or more actors like TJ or a squint to be cast on his new show. At least we’d get to see them some more even if they are playing different people!

DB may have given us the answer to this in one of his Instagram posts from today. He said “French Quarter for Liberia…Seals.” So, if the pilot is about a Seals operation in Liberia, then future episodes (if the show gets picked up) would probably be filmed somewhere else.
So this Ranger (Nick Irving…@officialreaper33) who was apparently consulting on DB’s Seals show has been posting Instagram pics in the last couple of days but hiding faces. I’m not sure if these are related to the Seals show or not. In the second pic above it looks like that’s actor AJ Buckley in the photo (second from left) and his face is shown, but everyone else is grayed out.
I wonder if he doesn’t have permission to post photos of some people (like DB?) DB has been “liking” most of his posts though.
It will be very interesting to see if this Seals pilot gets picked up. Has DB ever done a TV pilot that failed?
I saw a report on CBS morning news about how the Seals are dealing with drug issues and how publicity is hurting the Seal mission. That former Seals are cashing in by writing books, being consultants on movies etc. and revealing secrets and this stuff is hurting their mission. They did not make note that their own company has a Seal TV pilot in the works! But I thought it was interesting.
That’s a good point NWChic. Are we letting other countries/organizations know too much about our inner workings?! That could be dangerous! I want my shows to be realistic, but maybe not TOO realistic!!

I saw a comment somewhere on social media (can’t remember who or where) about how DB brought a lot of himself to Booth. Booth was from Philly, was Catholic, loved hockey, etc… They questioned whether DB would do the same for this new character and whether the character would end up being “Boothy”.
My guess is DB will bring different aspects of his own life to this new character…it will be interesting (and a little difficult) to see him in a new role.
If that Cocky belt buckle shows up on this character, I don’t know if I will be happy or upset! lol We will have to be vigilant (tough job!) and look for any comparisons between this Seal and Booth. I’m guessing there will be a lot of overlapping!

Most speculation has been that if DB has a love interest on the show (and no one really knows if he will) it would be Jessica Pare, but she doesn’t seem to be at Upfronts, or at least she isn’t being photographed with the rest of the cast. I read this article and then this distressing thought occurred to me. If this show runs for 13 seasons (and absolutely NO guarantee that it will survive even one season) David would be 61 YEARS OLD when it ends!!! That’s hard to believe.
I’ve seen some discussion on various TV sites about whether DB is too old to play a Navy SEAL. I did some research and it does appear that the majority of SEALS are in their 20s or 30s, but there have been a few older SEALS who remain on active duty. It will be interesting to see if they refer to his character’s age in this show.

I know how we can make this work! This whole series is actually a new book series from Temperance Brennan about a soldier inspired by experiences told to her from her husband Seeley Booth. Instead of Agent Andy, its Soldier Jason. lol So its kinda like the coma dream, but the whole series is Brennan’s imagining the stories as she types them!!

Well, I would think DB would get top billing. I think I remember that Jessica was on that Mad Men show (that I didn’t watch) so I feel DB has the longer resume and is more well-known. As far as his pull, he got Jim Caveziel bumped off this show (somehow lol) and has three successful shows under his belt. And has director cred himself. So I’m guessing he’d be allowed to suggest people to work with. As I thought about this yesterday, I found myself hoping we’d see TJ or Michaela pop in recurring roles!! That would be so fun!

Jim Caviezel’s casting was announced on March 14, then on March 22 it was announced that David was replacing him. So, whatever happened, happened during that week. The official reason was that Caviezel had “creative differences” with the show, but maybe CBS was trying to get DB and when they succeeded they dumped Caviezel?
There is a long list of folks DB could pull over from Bones…TJ, Michaela, and Patricia Belcher are at the top of the list for me, unless he could actually get ED to make an appearance!

Good manpire you mean? 😉😉 lol! Then kinda yes. Reinforcement he wasn’t Angelus. That he fought the good fight. That he made amends. It was key to Angel: to make atone for his past sins.
Angel is a pretty good show, I liked it better than Buffy tbh. There is humor in it too, esp with (early) Cordy character trying to make Angel loosen up & him trying too, awkwardly! It definitely has dark serious themes but there is always humor.
This is my third DB show with SEAL, I can adapt. I 💯 rather have DB onscreen than no DB . I’ll always have my Angel & Bones DVDs *hugs them tightly* 💟

Yes, she annoyed me as well. I agree about marrying a SEAL, but maybe that’s part of their problem…maybe she wants him to quit and get a regular job and he won’t? It will be interesting to see. She isn’t being listed as a main cast member, so maybe we’ll only see her from time to time.
I do hope Jason has a guy friend. Booth should have had one as well…sad that we never got to see it. In my head canon Booth and Aldo (he’s still alive) are buddies…lol.

Yeah, I don’t know anyone from the cast other than DB, but everyone seems very excited about them being on this show.
The show is certainly getting a lot of buzz in the press. I watched a video of CBS execs talking about the international screening for their shows, and they said they were interested in SEALTeam because it’s about not just about the U.S. military, it’s really a show about the families and the personal lives of the SEALS. We all know that DB does “angsty” drama very well, but I think he needs some light-heartedness and perhaps romance to balance that out (at least that’s what we got on Bones). He won’t have Emily with him this time so not sure about the romance part :((((

The reviewer, Matt Mitovitch, seems pretty lukewarm on the show. I’m pretty lukewarm on TVLine so I guess we’re even.
Interesting tidbits:
– Actress Michaela McManus is referred to as DB’s character’s ex, so I guess they are divorced
– David is getting older, but his co-stars are getting younger, as is always the case in Hollywood. David is 48. His rl wife Jaime is 41. Former costars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Emily are both 40 years old. Michaela McManus is 34!!!! I guess if DB gets a new role when he’s 58 they’ll give him a 24 year old wife…lol.
In the comments someone said they saw it and really enjoyed as it was their type of show…. I think that is going to be the main factor if people like CBS type shows & if military shows are their thing. If not then are a million other shows for them. I guess cable/Netflix etc.. is the “cool” show media darling place. 😉
An issue I use to have with tvline was their Castle vs Bones vibe. Those articles comments were like a war zone in the early days. 😞😒 Didn’t help that Matt was a die hard Castle stan either.
I didn’t recognize Reiko M. Aylesworth from the promo, Jason’s therapist. She was really good on 24….So I can see me enjoying that aspect.

They really put a damper on S12 for me & that’s before I even watched those lack luster episodes… Them & Peterson pretty much tarnished Brennan’s named throughout S12 with that crap promotion, look how many articles asked would she cheat. …. Ugh….still makes mad 😈
I don’t think Matt ever really liked Bones, he seemed to like to ‘bait’ the Bones fans with Castle stuff so he’s likely not a big DB fan.
This is a CBS show, so it will actually get advertisement time so that is a good thing! DB fans will of course tune in. I think it has a good chance, as long as they find some better female cast members! LOL So much of it depends on what’s happening behind the scenes that we never see. Some shows get a BIG chance/opportunity and others get the ax quick. Remember ED’s husband had a show on CBS that lasted one episode! LOL But of course that followed Big Bang and CBS expected a lot more in that slot I suppose. I have no clue what the issue was there! Like the drama behind the original star of this pilot walking away. Fun to know what the real drama is behind the scenes it all about there has to be something going on……I thought DB made a comment in Australia that he really wasn’t expecting it to be picked up? So who knows why CBS decided to stick with it regardless of pilot drama!

David does look like he is having a blast filming. I do hope there is more too it than guns and blowing stuff up. As much as we all loved “man of action” Booth, the angsty, emotional moments were pretty special too. I hope SEAL team has some emotional depth, not just over-the-top action.

Agree Estella! I loved seeing “Booth with a big gun”, but we do need the emotional moments also! Not a fan of just a shoot em up show.

– seeing David with another cast doesn’t bother me that much, TBH, I adjusted from Buffy & Angel to Bones and glad I did….if it helps, just think of it as hiatus project until the Bones reunion 😉
– the hand on David belongs to AJ, nearly sure
– non lead wives & husbands married to leads aren’t usually series regulars in an ensemble show, think ER, the doctors & nurses were central but their spouses whilst had storylines weren’t in every episode.
– if Seal team flops, it won’t be on David. It will be on a whole lot of elements, from poor writing & narratives, characters that don’t reasonate and the USA not having an appetite for military dramas.
I expect the reviews and reaction to the pilot to be very mixed….pilots aren’t perfect….I remember when Bones aired it didn’t get recieved favorably and the media kept comparing B&B to Mulder & Scully/Xfiles which was SO annoying…. and once it found it’s footing, woosh!!!

CBS sure is advertising it. So if it fails it won’t be because they didn’t push it. It is on Wednesday and that’s the NBC ‘This is Us’ night. I have to admit it was my new favorite show last year – so it will have that battle to fight although I do not think they are opposite each other? Not sure.

Also, not sure about you guys, but I don’t regularly run to the doc to have vitamins infused. Is this a regular practice in Hollywood? I’ve only heard about this being done when someone is pretty ill and completely run down. Anyway, hope DB is ok!

He definitely looks slimmer…the other night ST co-star AJ said they were still onset and it was 21 hours since he left his house….those kind of hours are not sustainable without burnout…but I know new shows have longer hours until they find their footing and can streamline production more… so hopefully they will get more down time.

That’s an interesting read….my take from that is David got offered ST first, turned it down due to location. It got passed to Jim C. Got passed back to DB with the carrot that it will shoot in LA if it gets picked up. Drama!
I truly hope that ST gets a chance to find its feet, that some fans give it time and not be over critical over it because its not Bones or its not SiX or its a CBS show and therefore isn’t cool with certain TV critics.
ST has the potential to be a vehical for military woman & men and their families to be heard. The story David said about the real life SEAL is heartbreaking. So glad they have real life SEALs in the crew, it all adds to its authenticity.
Yes, the exec producers mentioned in that video that former SEAL Mark Owen (not his real name) is consulting on the project…he has written two books which I might read at some point. Hopefully he will bring authenticity to the scripts.
I’m confused though…I thought the guy carrying Dita in that twitter pic above (with Ian and DB) was a former SEAL and Dita’s owner, but apparently that’s Justin Melnick and he is an actor who was never a SEAL. I’m confused. Who owns Dita?
As far as DB turning down the role first…I’m not sure. At first I thought the same thing you did, but then I reread it and it’s not clear if all that happened with DB after JC quit or before. In any case, ST wanted DB bad enough to change their filming location.
Justin is a real life SEAL. Dita is his SEAL dog.. He is just being funny. He is legit. So is Tyler the other SEAL. I think they just wanted a change of direction career wise….on one IG story they congratulated Justin on saying his first line, ep 4, he is an actor now. Let me find it for you. It was really sweet.
I’ve been reading the early reviews for SEALteam and they range from bland to pretty bad. I haven’t seen any review that has a problem with David’s acting…most of the reviews compare the show negatively to SIX, which I never watched, or says that it’s just another bland military drama. I wonder if this is what caused Jim Caviezel to depart…he got a look at the script and decided it wasn’t going anywhere and decided to jump ship. I watched the video by SEALteam executive producers Sarah Timberman and Ben Cavell and can’t say I was very impressed with they way they discussed the show. It made me miss Hart and Stephen!
CBS is really promoting this show, which is a nice contrast to Fox. There is a half-hour special on Monday, Sept. 4 to introduce the new CBS shows…DB is introducing SEALteam. I’m crossing my fingers that DB and his castmates have enough charm to make this show survive. They sure seem to have fun filming.
The critics are harsh on military dramas, I think they want hard hitting documentary gut wrenching and that’s not mainstream TV.
ST is made for older CBS viewers, and that needs to be kept in mind, it isnt a cable show or with cool hip young things. It isnt going to be a media darling. The reviewers may of watched SIX but 99% CBS viewers won’t have, SIX gets like 1M viewers whilst CBS gets 3M on a bad day on a repeat…. Like the reviewer said at THR, ST is made for CBS viewers and not for reviewers/critics & will most likely be a hit….I don’t pay much heed to reviewers. Its just their POV…..Variety absolutely hated Bones when it aired its Pilot, and it proved them 12yrs wrong.
For me episode 3 or 4 will be judging it and not on the pilot.
And no offense to Jim C, but I honestly can’t see him pulling off any personal/ family stuff, I find him incredibly one dimensional as an actor, he hits things and utters a few words… Rinse repeat. For that reason I could barely watch him on POI.
He’s a cutie for sure and also very charming. I think I’ll enjoy watching him as much as I like watching DB. If he can develop his skill as an actor he’ll go far in Hollywood, I think.
I have to agree with Shanny, I take critic’s reviews with a grain of salt. I really don’t ‘follow’ their predictions, but last year, I know Marissa was singing the praises of ‘Pitch’ and Fox bumped Bones for Pitch and Pitch tanked.
It’s really hard to tell what makes a show ‘take off’ so to speak.
What Jim C brought to Seal Team was the ability to say he was an actual vet right? also he brought that CBS- POI audience. I only watched part of that show once and never went back. I’m not a Jim C. fan and it just didn’t click with me.
Of course my absolute hate of the female lead here is so disappointing, but I’ll listen to what you watchers say. She’s in every episode listed at IMDB, DB’s ex and kid appear to be in only 1 if I’m figuring the characters right. If they have her character and DB’s get together I will scream!!! LOL Like Rbay – if he cheats on Brennan ( and with HER) I’ll be seeing red!
Who is that Brock guy? He is good looking…..I didn’t see him listed at IMDB….but of course I looked at that and saw the incredibly awful Jessica person! LOL I just can’t believe she will pull of being a military person in any stretch of the imagination! LOL
But I digress – did any critics predict ‘This is Us’ taking off last year? I know only heard about it after friends kept insisting I watch it. So it will be a wait and see sort of thing. Each network has a military show so there will be a selection to choose from for those who are interested. DB fits the role well it appears. But it looks like a expensive and complicated show to film, I don’t know how that figures into the equation. Does anyone know how many episodes CBS has ordered to start? Does anyone do a full 22 or 23 anymore? On the down side, Bones was given time to grow an audience, I think those days are past. TV executives aren’t looking at giving shows that sort of time any more I don’t think.

I think This Is Us was a big hit for reviewers, and like NWChic said Pitch too….one got the ratings and the other didn’t. ..its really hard to know what will click with viewers and with so many platforms its even harder.
Jessica Pare as far as I can tell is basically more studio based barking out her CIA expertise *eyeroll at her* ( that’s for you NWChic 😂 ) I think DB scenes are mainly with AJ, Neil & Toni & the real life SEALs…Max seems to have a subplot were he has to go through Green Team training… Brock is Justin he is Dita’s owner…..No ep order from CBS as far as I can see…but I agree ST looks really expensive and really long hours for the actors/crew, maybe 22 would be too much tbh, and of course the premier ratings will dictate episode order too. I think new shows initially get 12 or 13 order. They are on episode 6 now. CBS are pretty brutal, if it doesn’t work it will get bumped to Saturday to play out, then that’s all she wrote.
I don’t think I will ever get invested in another show like I was with Bones, 12yrs of hardcore fan mania!! Lol. But maybe I will enjoy new & undiscovered shows more if I watch like a regular viewer, and not get annoyed with the OOC character behavior and horrid spoilers and annoying showrunner comments 😯

DB is a smart guy. He got this opportunity in a round about way, so I figure he doesn’t want to ‘rock the boat’ right away and start saying she sucks, she needs to go!! Too diva! LOL (This is what I tell myself) He needs to start slow (Ian as director) and if ST shows any traction, THEN DB might be able to throw some creative weight around and get rid of HER!! LOL (my dream scenario for now!)

I notice that DB’s character also has a son in the first episode. Just like Booth! I think Jason will seem Booth-like so that part should be very believable and good casting . But I too will not get swept into a show again like I did Bones. Much easier to wait and binge watch like the kids do!

I still haven’t made it to see the Pilot yet but I saw it is on demand (and I finally DVRd it!) and so I will try to catch up by this weekend. I have seen promotions everywhere for it. On the car radio, on my FB feed, commercials on TV….its SO WEIRD for me to see DB in a promo because Fox would NEVER do it. Can you imagine if they had promoted Bones for like 1% of the time?!

So I watched Seal Team tonight. I’m going be gone for 5 days on a mini vacation.
– DB looked very hot in this episode. In fact he was wet! There was a scene of them swimming underwater. I had to laugh because his full head of hair made me think about when people thought that he wore a toupee, LOL!
And Booth sniper skills were on display in this episode. I continue to like the show, and I will keep watching it!

I watched the promo. It looks like the scene of Jason in bed with his wife is as much as we got in the coma dream…lol!
I tried to find a gif of shirtless DB but I guess no one is doing gifs of SEAL team yet, or at least I couldn’t find any. I’ll just have to pretend that is is B&B…not ready to see DB in bed with a different actress yet!
Also, I’m kind of surprised that 4 episodes in we get a shirtless DB in bed. I kind of wondered if DB might have declined to do this any more and they would leave the bedroom scenes to the younger guys, not that DB doesn’t still look great.

Met my dad for lunch today. He asked me if I’d watched Seal Team yet. I said no but I’ve got them on DVR. He said, with the gravitas of someone who’s been in showbiz and/or the military (of which he’s been in neither!), that he thought “Boreanaz is about 10 years older than his prime here”. However he could also tell DB was “working hard with his trainer” LOL
I do agree. DB was pushing it in being a field FBI agent (the last few years) on Bones as it was, and now he’s in yet another active role. I’m no military expert, but surely DB is pushing it age-wise for this gig. But, as I told my father, its suspension of disbelief, we just love DB on screen!
I also thought that David is a little old to play a Navy SEAL — he is 48, but I think he could pass for about 5 years younger…say around 42-43. I would still think that’s old for a SEAL, but I did a little research and apparently there are a few older SEALs out there. One retired at 60! There is another one, Perry F. Van Hooser, went through SEAL training (BUD/S) when he was 36 and served 26 years as a Navy SEAL (he was killed on a mission in Afghanistan).
So I guess it might be realistic. I haven’t managed to watch one full episode yet so I don’t know if they have explained his age or why he is so much older than the others.
Another perplexing thing about ages on SEAL team is that the actress that plays DB’s wife is only 34! So, while the leading man is allowed to age, the woman in the picture has to stay young. I also see that she is 5’9″ which I think is Emily’s height, and a good match for DB.
I wonder if they are waiting to see if there is chemistry between DB and any of the ladies on the show before they decide which way the romantic relationship will go, or if they have already planned it out? I did see one interesting comment on one of the articles about SEAL team…the person said that they thought it was obvious that they were building toward a relationship between Toni Trucks and Jessica Pare’s characters. That would be a bit of a surprise, as I thought that they would try to put DB with Jessica Pare. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
I want to ask Hart and company one question…why couldn’t we have gotten this just once on Bones?

Seriously!! The closest we came was the coma dream scene. A tastefully done scene that could have easily been done on Bones. I was hoping we would get this type of scene during their honeymoon episode…but no, all we got was a kiss and innuendos. 😦

Yep. It all started after she had kids. She just wasn’t comfortable with her body I guess. Plus she breastfed for like 2 years. So no more EITB scenes, or anything! She was in bed with whats his face in season 2. Tastefully done, covered with a sheet laying on his chest. That could have easily been done with B&B after they were married for gods sake!!

It was because of the World Series game 7, which CBS knew was going to draw huge ratings. They showed two repeat episodes of SEAL team. This week will be a new episode.
SEAL team got a full season 1 order (I think 22 episodes?) and now the debate is whether it will be renewed for a S2. So far the articles I’ve read think that a S2 renewal is probable. Fingers crossed because I do enjoy seeing DB on the TV screen each week!

Speaking of World Series….Well, my team, The Tigers, stunk this year, but we were all rooting for Houston so Justin Verlander would get a world series ring. Glad they won for JV and the city of Houston!!
Finally caught up on SEAL team and looking forward to episode 6!
Thoughts so far:
Pros:
– The action scenes. The show has a movie quality look to it — lots of extras, locations that look authentic for the region they are supposed to be in — which must be costing a boatload of money. I wonder how long CBS will keep spending that much to film this show?
– All the characters. There isn’t anyone I dislike, at least not yet (I never watched Mad Men so didn’t have any dislike for Jessica Pare going in).
– Dita the dog. What a fantastic idea to have a dog like that on the show!
– The show has real veterans consulting and appearing on the show
– That they just dropped us into the middle of the story (military lingo and all) from the beginning and they expect the audience to be smart enough to catch on
Cons:
– I see zero chemistry between David and the actress who plays Jason’s wife Alana. She isn’t even listed as main cast (she has a recurring guest role) so I’m not sure what they intend for her. Normally I would want to see the marriage survive but without any chemistry it might not go over well on a TV show.
– I don’t see any chemistry between Jessia Pare and David either, certainly not anything like he had with Emily in the Bones pilot. I once read that DB could create chemistry with a lamppost (I do think he had it with Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy) but maybe it just isn’t going to happen this time…certainly not anything he had with Emily from the pilot onwards.
– I think we really need to start learning more about the characters on this show. As of the 5th episode we know very little…Jason is tortured by memories of his buddy getting killed, he is intense, Ray is his friend, he is annoyed by Clay Spenser. We know that Mandy (Jessica Pare) is driven and doesn’t have much time for a personal life. We know next to nothing about Sonny or Lisa.
– I think at this point we almost know more about Clay Spenser (Max Theriot) that we do about Jason Hayes. Max almost seems to be elevated to co-star of this show…not sure if that’s intentional or not.
Overall I love still seeing DB on the show and seeing his tweets and Instagrams so I’m happy it’s going to stay on the air for now.
FWIW, I think SEAL team really went off the rails last night with Ep. 6. This is a great article that echoes my feelings. Contains spoilers if you haven’t seen the episode.
I too was let down by the fact that Jason didn’t apologize to Beau…not because Jason was wrong about tactics, but because he was being as much of a jerk as Beau was. So, they use the episode to call out “white privelege” and the difficulty of minorities in the Nave SEALs, but then have the black guy being the only one who apologizes? What??? This was not a good episode.
Also, it looks like SEAL team ratings are falling and some are beginning to question it’s renewal hopes:
I’ll stay this…I think it’s kind of odd to introduce liberal talking points in a show that more-than-likely appeals to conservative, middle of America families.
Sounds like they are falling into the SN trap of lecturing their audience. I just want shows to concentrate on making interesting and compelling stories, not telling me how to live and what to think. I have not yet started the show but they’re in my DVR, so I may skip that episode!
I wonder how DB would feel if the Seals show got pulled. He has never been on a failing show! I guess movies are a different story though…. 🙂

Exactly! It’s not even that the point was necessarily bad, but it was very jarring how it was brought up and didn’t really fit into the flow of the episode. The whole thing became very preachy instead of just being good television, which definitely happened on Bones as well. We all know SN could write great episodes, but his preachy ones were just awful!

Agree with everything you said Estella. Even though my dvr did not record the first half of the show for some reason, I caught the main parts. Focus more on the dog, LOL, and DB’s character. Love angsty DB. I enjoyed the last part where he went to visit the girlfriend of Nate and shared a cup of tea with her

It was hard to watch Clay go through the training in the cage, almost drowning, etc.

I’m having a problem with the way they set this show up. I don’t see any chemistry between DB and his wife, but I don’t want to see them break up and the family fall apart. I know that happens in real life, but I like my TV characters to be a little more noble. I (almost) always like Booth because he was the good guy…he tried to be a good guy with Rebecca and even Hannah. Hate to see Jason divorced and not living with his kids, if the show goes there.
I do think there is the beginning of some chemistry between DB and Jessica Pare, so maybe they are headed for a romance, but if that happens it will be at the expensive of Jason’s family staying whole.
Not sure why the writers set it up this way…I feel like they created a problem for themselves that didn’t need to be.

Yeah, I’m not loving that Alana makes her warrior husband sleep on a friend’s couch for the few nights that he is actually home, which means not only is he away from her he also isn’t getting to spend time with his children. I was rooting for this marriage, but I read an interview recently with showrunner Benjamin Cavell and he said that they won’t shy away from showing marriages falling apart and ending in divorce because that is often what happens in real life. My bet is that Jason’s marriage is doomed and he’ll hook up with Mandy, or perhaps he’ll just have a fling with her while still trying to fix his marriage.

I saw the new SEALteam discussion threads for seasons 1 and 2 (and I do hope there will be a season 2…fingers crossed that we hear a renewal announcement soon.) I certainly don’t like the show as much as I loved Bones, but it’s nice to see DB each week. Without him we would lose all connection to Bones folks…:(.

Yes it simply looks like Booth is on a new mission! This pilot is taking quite a while to film it seems? Or maybe it just seems that way because there is no Bones to think about anymore! DB is away from the family for quite a bit. Maybe they are not in NO anymore? Who knows!
From what I can gather from Instagram posts, DB is definitely still in NO and his family is in L.A. Jaime has been posting pictures of Bella and horses on the weekend, and just this morning she posted Jaden in a high school hockey game. DB has been commenting on her posts.
It is a long time to be away, but it sounds like they have been filming night and day and all through the weekends, so he probably barely has a chance to breathe. Even his mom commented on the Insta post with the dog, and said “Love getting your pictures. Looking great.”

Yep it does, cast change all the time, sometimes even after the pilot has been shot….Even with Bones’ The Finder they changed the female cast after they shot the pilot when it went to series.
Yeah, some people are saying that he probably balked at love scenes he was being asked to do, but others are saying that he would have known what was required in that department before he signed on for the role, unless the producers changed the rules after he got there.

Yes that is sad I’m not ready for it, and it will be even worse if it is that girl from Mad Men. She is awful. Maybe she’s been taking acting lessons. I would guess THAT is more likely a reason that JC quit. But you would think they would have replaced her, unless of course she’s got a ‘in’ with the pilot that trumped him? DB hasn’t been posting pictures of him with the female cast. Maybe he knows that part will be hard for his fans?

That was my thought as well. Anything JC filmed would have to be redone. I did notice that Deadline announced JC’s casting on 3/14 and then DB replacing him on 3/22, so only eight days had passed (unless JC had been cast for awhile but it wasn’t announced for some reason…I don’t know how these things work.) I guess my point is that perhaps JC was only involved in discussions and rehearsals and not so much filming before he departed.

Well, right after the DB casting news came out, I saw that the Australia Supernova event retweeted that DB would be the guest. It’s in late April, so the pilot filming will probably be over by then, but DB won’t have much of a breather. I wonder if he is taking his family with him? I’ve seen people tweeting DB directly asking him to confirm that he is still attending, but he hasn’t answered anyone as far as I can see.
Maybe they should recast the female lead as Michaela! Lol ok that would be even weirder than a random actress! I’d love it if DB could get one or more actors like TJ or a squint to be cast on his new show. At least we’d get to see them some more even if they are playing different people!

DB may have given us the answer to this in one of his Instagram posts from today. He said “French Quarter for Liberia…Seals.” So, if the pilot is about a Seals operation in Liberia, then future episodes (if the show gets picked up) would probably be filmed somewhere else.

So this Ranger (Nick Irving…@officialreaper33) who was apparently consulting on DB’s Seals show has been posting Instagram pics in the last couple of days but hiding faces. I’m not sure if these are related to the Seals show or not. In the second pic above it looks like that’s actor AJ Buckley in the photo (second from left) and his face is shown, but everyone else is grayed out.
I wonder if he doesn’t have permission to post photos of some people (like DB?) DB has been “liking” most of his posts though.

I saw a report on CBS morning news about how the Seals are dealing with drug issues and how publicity is hurting the Seal mission. That former Seals are cashing in by writing books, being consultants on movies etc. and revealing secrets and this stuff is hurting their mission. They did not make note that their own company has a Seal TV pilot in the works! But I thought it was interesting.
That’s a good point NWChic. Are we letting other countries/organizations know too much about our inner workings?! That could be dangerous! I want my shows to be realistic, but maybe not TOO realistic!!

I saw a comment somewhere on social media (can’t remember who or where) about how DB brought a lot of himself to Booth. Booth was from Philly, was Catholic, loved hockey, etc… They questioned whether DB would do the same for this new character and whether the character would end up being “Boothy”.
My guess is DB will bring different aspects of his own life to this new character…it will be interesting (and a little difficult) to see him in a new role.
If that Cocky belt buckle shows up on this character, I don’t know if I will be happy or upset! lol We will have to be vigilant (tough job!) and look for any comparisons between this Seal and Booth. I’m guessing there will be a lot of overlapping!

Most speculation has been that if DB has a love interest on the show (and no one really knows if he will) it would be Jessica Pare, but she doesn’t seem to be at Upfronts, or at least she isn’t being photographed with the rest of the cast. I read this article and then this distressing thought occurred to me. If this show runs for 13 seasons (and absolutely NO guarantee that it will survive even one season) David would be 61 YEARS OLD when it ends!!! That’s hard to believe.
I’ve seen some discussion on various TV sites about whether DB is too old to play a Navy SEAL. I did some research and it does appear that the majority of SEALS are in their 20s or 30s, but there have been a few older SEALS who remain on active duty. It will be interesting to see if they refer to his character’s age in this show.

Well, I would think DB would get top billing. I think I remember that Jessica was on that Mad Men show (that I didn’t watch) so I feel DB has the longer resume and is more well-known. As far as his pull, he got Jim Caveziel bumped off this show (somehow lol) and has three successful shows under his belt. And has director cred himself. So I’m guessing he’d be allowed to suggest people to work with. As I thought about this yesterday, I found myself hoping we’d see TJ or Michaela pop in recurring roles!! That would be so fun!

Hmm…did DB get Jim Caviezel bumped off of SEALS? I’m not sure who the bigger star is — Caviezel has a lot of fans.
Jim Caviezel’s casting was announced on March 14, then on March 22 it was announced that David was replacing him. So, whatever happened, happened during that week. The official reason was that Caviezel had “creative differences” with the show, but maybe CBS was trying to get DB and when they succeeded they dumped Caviezel?
There is a long list of folks DB could pull over from Bones…TJ, Michaela, and Patricia Belcher are at the top of the list for me, unless he could actually get ED to make an appearance!

Good manpire you mean? 😉😉 lol! Then kinda yes. Reinforcement he wasn’t Angelus. That he fought the good fight. That he made amends. It was key to Angel: to make atone for his past sins.
Angel is a pretty good show, I liked it better than Buffy tbh. There is humor in it too, esp with (early) Cordy character trying to make Angel loosen up & him trying too, awkwardly! It definitely has dark serious themes but there is always humor.
This is my third DB show with SEAL, I can adapt. I 💯 rather have DB onscreen than no DB . I’ll always have my Angel & Bones DVDs *hugs them tightly* 💟

Yes, she annoyed me as well. I agree about marrying a SEAL, but maybe that’s part of their problem…maybe she wants him to quit and get a regular job and he won’t? It will be interesting to see. She isn’t being listed as a main cast member, so maybe we’ll only see her from time to time.
I do hope Jason has a guy friend. Booth should have had one as well…sad that we never got to see it. In my head canon Booth and Aldo (he’s still alive) are buddies…lol.

Yeah, I don’t know anyone from the cast other than DB, but everyone seems very excited about them being on this show.
The show is certainly getting a lot of buzz in the press. I watched a video of CBS execs talking about the international screening for their shows, and they said they were interested in SEALTeam because it’s about not just about the U.S. military, it’s really a show about the families and the personal lives of the SEALS. We all know that DB does “angsty” drama very well, but I think he needs some light-heartedness and perhaps romance to balance that out (at least that’s what we got on Bones). He won’t have Emily with him this time so not sure about the romance part :((((

Has there been any news on when they will be filming? I guess since DB’s sick they haven’t started yet, but I would think he’ll be busy most of the summer working on the show.
I think they start a tad earlier on new shows, so they can find their feet & make changes with some time to spare, so I am guessing late June or very early July? Just a guess tho

The reviewer, Matt Mitovitch, seems pretty lukewarm on the show. I’m pretty lukewarm on TVLine so I guess we’re even.
Interesting tidbits:
– Actress Michaela McManus is referred to as DB’s character’s ex, so I guess they are divorced
– David is getting older, but his co-stars are getting younger, as is always the case in Hollywood. David is 48. His rl wife Jaime is 41. Former costars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Emily are both 40 years old. Michaela McManus is 34!!!! I guess if DB gets a new role when he’s 58 they’ll give him a 24 year old wife…lol.
In the comments someone said they saw it and really enjoyed as it was their type of show…. I think that is going to be the main factor if people like CBS type shows & if military shows are their thing. If not then are a million other shows for them. I guess cable/Netflix etc.. is the “cool” show media darling place. 😉
An issue I use to have with tvline was their Castle vs Bones vibe. Those articles comments were like a war zone in the early days. 😞😒 Didn’t help that Matt was a die hard Castle stan either.
I didn’t recognize Reiko M. Aylesworth from the promo, Jason’s therapist. She was really good on 24….So I can see me enjoying that aspect.

They really put a damper on S12 for me & that’s before I even watched those lack luster episodes… Them & Peterson pretty much tarnished Brennan’s named throughout S12 with that crap promotion, look how many articles asked would she cheat. …. Ugh….still makes mad 😈

I don’t think Matt ever really liked Bones, he seemed to like to ‘bait’ the Bones fans with Castle stuff so he’s likely not a big DB fan.
This is a CBS show, so it will actually get advertisement time so that is a good thing! DB fans will of course tune in. I think it has a good chance, as long as they find some better female cast members! LOL So much of it depends on what’s happening behind the scenes that we never see. Some shows get a BIG chance/opportunity and others get the ax quick. Remember ED’s husband had a show on CBS that lasted one episode! LOL But of course that followed Big Bang and CBS expected a lot more in that slot I suppose. I have no clue what the issue was there! Like the drama behind the original star of this pilot walking away. Fun to know what the real drama is behind the scenes it all about there has to be something going on……I thought DB made a comment in Australia that he really wasn’t expecting it to be picked up? So who knows why CBS decided to stick with it regardless of pilot drama!

David does look like he is having a blast filming. I do hope there is more too it than guns and blowing stuff up. As much as we all loved “man of action” Booth, the angsty, emotional moments were pretty special too. I hope SEAL team has some emotional depth, not just over-the-top action.
That said, this role does seem tailor-made for David, and it’s nice to see him with a network that actually promotes his show.

Agree Estella! I loved seeing “Booth with a big gun”, but we do need the emotional moments also! Not a fan of just a shoot em up show.

There definitely will be focus on the personal lives of both the SEALS and the people they save / missions. Also on how the missions affect the SEALs mentally. That’s what CBS bigwig boss said anyways at LA screenings….I think there will be good balance.

– non lead wives & husbands married to leads aren’t usually series regulars in an ensemble show, think ER, the doctors & nurses were central but their spouses whilst had storylines weren’t in every episode.
– if Seal team flops, it won’t be on David. It will be on a whole lot of elements, from poor writing & narratives, characters that don’t reasonate and the USA not having an appetite for military dramas.
I expect the reviews and reaction to the pilot to be very mixed….pilots aren’t perfect….I remember when Bones aired it didn’t get recieved favorably and the media kept comparing B&B to Mulder & Scully/Xfiles which was SO annoying…. and once it found it’s footing, woosh!!!

CBS sure is advertising it. So if it fails it won’t be because they didn’t push it. It is on Wednesday and that’s the NBC ‘This is Us’ night. I have to admit it was my new favorite show last year – so it will have that battle to fight although I do not think they are opposite each other? Not sure.

He definitely looks slimmer…the other night ST co-star AJ said they were still onset and it was 21 hours since he left his house….those kind of hours are not sustainable without burnout…but I know new shows have longer hours until they find their footing and can streamline production more… so hopefully they will get more down time.

That’s an interesting read….my take from that is David got offered ST first, turned it down due to location. It got passed to Jim C. Got passed back to DB with the carrot that it will shoot in LA if it gets picked up. Drama!
I truly hope that ST gets a chance to find its feet, that some fans give it time and not be over critical over it because its not Bones or its not SiX or its a CBS show and therefore isn’t cool with certain TV critics.
ST has the potential to be a vehical for military woman & men and their families to be heard. The story David said about the real life SEAL is heartbreaking. So glad they have real life SEALs in the crew, it all adds to its authenticity.
Yes, the exec producers mentioned in that video that former SEAL Mark Owen (not his real name) is consulting on the project…he has written two books which I might read at some point. Hopefully he will bring authenticity to the scripts.
I’m confused though…I thought the guy carrying Dita in that twitter pic above (with Ian and DB) was a former SEAL and Dita’s owner, but apparently that’s Justin Melnick and he is an actor who was never a SEAL. I’m confused. Who owns Dita?
As far as DB turning down the role first…I’m not sure. At first I thought the same thing you did, but then I reread it and it’s not clear if all that happened with DB after JC quit or before. In any case, ST wanted DB bad enough to change their filming location.
Justin is a real life SEAL. Dita is his SEAL dog.. He is just being funny. He is legit. So is Tyler the other SEAL. I think they just wanted a change of direction career wise….on one IG story they congratulated Justin on saying his first line, ep 4, he is an actor now. Let me find it for you. It was really sweet.
I’ve been reading the early reviews for SEALteam and they range from bland to pretty bad. I haven’t seen any review that has a problem with David’s acting…most of the reviews compare the show negatively to SIX, which I never watched, or says that it’s just another bland military drama. I wonder if this is what caused Jim Caviezel to depart…he got a look at the script and decided it wasn’t going anywhere and decided to jump ship. I watched the video by SEALteam executive producers Sarah Timberman and Ben Cavell and can’t say I was very impressed with they way they discussed the show. It made me miss Hart and Stephen!

CBS is really promoting this show, which is a nice contrast to Fox. There is a half-hour special on Monday, Sept. 4 to introduce the new CBS shows…DB is introducing SEALteam. I’m crossing my fingers that DB and his castmates have enough charm to make this show survive. They sure seem to have fun filming.
The critics are harsh on military dramas, I think they want hard hitting documentary gut wrenching and that’s not mainstream TV.
ST is made for older CBS viewers, and that needs to be kept in mind, it isnt a cable show or with cool hip young things. It isnt going to be a media darling. The reviewers may of watched SIX but 99% CBS viewers won’t have, SIX gets like 1M viewers whilst CBS gets 3M on a bad day on a repeat…. Like the reviewer said at THR, ST is made for CBS viewers and not for reviewers/critics & will most likely be a hit….I don’t pay much heed to reviewers. Its just their POV…..Variety absolutely hated Bones when it aired its Pilot, and it proved them 12yrs wrong.
For me episode 3 or 4 will be judging it and not on the pilot.
And no offense to Jim C, but I honestly can’t see him pulling off any personal/ family stuff, I find him incredibly one dimensional as an actor, he hits things and utters a few words… Rinse repeat. For that reason I could barely watch him on POI.

I have to agree with Shanny, I take critic’s reviews with a grain of salt. I really don’t ‘follow’ their predictions, but last year, I know Marissa was singing the praises of ‘Pitch’ and Fox bumped Bones for Pitch and Pitch tanked.
It’s really hard to tell what makes a show ‘take off’ so to speak.
What Jim C brought to Seal Team was the ability to say he was an actual vet right? also he brought that CBS- POI audience. I only watched part of that show once and never went back. I’m not a Jim C. fan and it just didn’t click with me.
Of course my absolute hate of the female lead here is so disappointing, but I’ll listen to what you watchers say. She’s in every episode listed at IMDB, DB’s ex and kid appear to be in only 1 if I’m figuring the characters right. If they have her character and DB’s get together I will scream!!! But I digress – did any critics predict ‘This is Us’ taking off last year? I know only heard about it after friends kept insisting I watch it. So it will be a wait and see sort of thing. Each network has a military show so there will be a selection to choose from for those who are interested. DB fits the role well it appears. But it looks like a expensive and complicated show to film, I don’t know how that figures into the equation. Does anyone know how many episodes CBS has ordered to start? Does anyone do a full 22 or 23 anymore? On the down side, Bones was given time to grow an audience, I think those days are past. TV executives aren’t looking at giving shows that sort of time any more I don’t think.

I’ve been guilty myself of not trying new shows because I’m not sure if they’ll stick around, and I don’t want to become invested in them. if they don’t last. I know “of” the lead on David’s show, but I haven’t really seen her at work. She must’ve convinced the higher ups she’d be good, plus I bet DB has enough clout to accept or reject her at this point in his career.
I think This Is Us was a big hit for reviewers, and like NWChic said Pitch too….one got the ratings and the other didn’t. ..its really hard to know what will click with viewers and with so many platforms its even harder.
Jessica Pare as far as I can tell is basically more studio based barking out her CIA expertise *eyeroll at her* ( that’s for you NWChic 😂 ) I think DB scenes are mainly with AJ, Neil & Toni & the real life SEALs…Max seems to have a subplot were he has to go through Green Team training… Brock is Justin he is Dita’s owner…..No ep order from CBS as far as I can see…but I agree ST looks really expensive and really long hours for the actors/crew, maybe 22 would be too much tbh, and of course the premier ratings will dictate episode order too. I think new shows initially get 12 or 13 order. They are on episode 6 now. CBS are pretty brutal, if it doesn’t work it will get bumped to Saturday to play out, then that’s all she wrote.
I don’t think I will ever get invested in another show like I was with Bones, 12yrs of hardcore fan mania!! Lol. But maybe I will enjoy new & undiscovered shows more if I watch like a regular viewer, and not get annoyed with the OOC character behavior and horrid spoilers and annoying showrunner comments 😯

DB is a smart guy. He got this opportunity in a round about way, so I figure he doesn’t want to ‘rock the boat’ right away and start saying she sucks, she needs to go!! Too diva! LOL (This is what I tell myself) He needs to start slow (Ian as director) and if ST shows any traction, THEN DB might be able to throw some creative weight around and get rid of HER!! LOL (my dream scenario for now!)

I notice that DB’s character also has a son in the first episode. Just like Booth! I think Jason will seem Booth-like so that part should be very believable and good casting . But I too will not get swept into a show again like I did Bones. Much easier to wait and binge watch like the kids do!

They were really promoting it before it aired, and now that the numbers were so great for the first episode I’m sure they will continue. I know it’s early to call this a success right now, but it’s looking good for DB!
I still haven’t made it to see the Pilot yet but I saw it is on demand (and I finally DVRd it!) and so I will try to catch up by this weekend. I have seen promotions everywhere for it. On the car radio, on my FB feed, commercials on TV….its SO WEIRD for me to see DB in a promo because Fox would NEVER do it. Can you imagine if they had promoted Bones for like 1% of the time?!

Watched ep. 2 last night. I am really enjoying this show. Love DB’s character and his facial expressions. So Boothy tbh!!

New Seal Team episode tonight!
That is not DB’s ex wife, but they are “separated”, taking a break. (lol, I still cannot call him by his new character name Jason)
So…I would expect a hot love scene in the future!
So I watched Seal Team tonight. I’m going be gone for 5 days on a mini vacation.
– DB looked very hot in this episode. In fact he was wet! There was a scene of them swimming underwater. I had to laugh because his full head of hair made me think about when people thought that he wore a toupee, LOL!
And Booth sniper skills were on display in this episode. I continue to like the show, and I will keep watching it!
Also, alert for next episode! The previews for next week showed DB shirtless! Yes he was in bed with his wife with no shirt on!
Last time we got that was in season 10 premiere of Bones.

I watched the promo. It looks like the scene of Jason in bed with his wife is as much as we got in the coma dream…lol!
I tried to find a gif of shirtless DB but I guess no one is doing gifs of SEAL team yet, or at least I couldn’t find any. I’ll just have to pretend that is is B&B…not ready to see DB in bed with a different actress yet!
Also, I’m kind of surprised that 4 episodes in we get a shirtless DB in bed. I kind of wondered if DB might have declined to do this any more and they would leave the bedroom scenes to the younger guys, not that DB doesn’t still look great.

Met my dad for lunch today. He asked me if I’d watched Seal Team yet. I said no but I’ve got them on DVR. He said, with the gravitas of someone who’s been in showbiz and/or the military (of which he’s been in neither!), that he thought “Boreanaz is about 10 years older than his prime here”. However he could also tell DB was “working hard with his trainer” LOL
I do agree. DB was pushing it in being a field FBI agent (the last few years) on Bones as it was, and now he’s in yet another active role. I’m no military expert, but surely DB is pushing it age-wise for this gig. But, as I told my father, its suspension of disbelief, we just love DB on screen!
I also thought that David is a little old to play a Navy SEAL — he is 48, but I think he could pass for about 5 years younger…say around 42-43. I would still think that’s old for a SEAL, but I did a little research and apparently there are a few older SEALs out there. One retired at 60! There is another one, Perry F. Van Hooser, went through SEAL training (BUD/S) when he was 36 and served 26 years as a Navy SEAL (he was killed on a mission in Afghanistan).
So I guess it might be realistic. I haven’t managed to watch one full episode yet so I don’t know if they have explained his age or why he is so much older than the others.
Another perplexing thing about ages on SEAL team is that the actress that plays DB’s wife is only 34! So, while the leading man is allowed to age, the woman in the picture has to stay young. I also see that she is 5’9″ which I think is Emily’s height, and a good match for DB.
I wonder if they are waiting to see if there is chemistry between DB and any of the ladies on the show before they decide which way the romantic relationship will go, or if they have already planned it out? I did see one interesting comment on one of the articles about SEAL team…the person said that they thought it was obvious that they were building toward a relationship between Toni Trucks and Jessica Pare’s characters. That would be a bit of a surprise, as I thought that they would try to put DB with Jessica Pare. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
I want to ask Hart and company one question…why couldn’t we have gotten this just once on Bones?

Seriously!! The closest we came was the coma dream scene. A tastefully done scene that could have easily been done on Bones. I was hoping we would get this type of scene during their honeymoon episode…but no, all we got was a kiss and innuendos. 😦
There was a Bones connection in this episode from last wednesday!! I recognized the guy who played Oliver was the same guy in Conman in the methlab! The corrupt sheriff was on Seal team!!

Yep. It all started after she had kids. She just wasn’t comfortable with her body I guess. Plus she breastfed for like 2 years. So no more EITB scenes, or anything! She was in bed with whats his face in season 2. Tastefully done, covered with a sheet laying on his chest. That could have easily been done with B&B after they were married for gods sake!!

I am really enjoying Seal Team, I hope the ratings are good.
It was because of the World Series game 7, which CBS knew was going to draw huge ratings. They showed two repeat episodes of SEAL team. This week will be a new episode.
SEAL team got a full season 1 order (I think 22 episodes?) and now the debate is whether it will be renewed for a S2. So far the articles I’ve read think that a S2 renewal is probable. Fingers crossed because I do enjoy seeing DB on the TV screen each week!

Speaking of World Series….Well, my team, The Tigers, stunk this year, but we were all rooting for Houston so Justin Verlander would get a world series ring. Glad they won for JV and the city of Houston!!
Finally caught up on SEAL team and looking forward to episode 6!
Thoughts so far:
Pros:
– The action scenes. The show has a movie quality look to it — lots of extras, locations that look authentic for the region they are supposed to be in — which must be costing a boatload of money. I wonder how long CBS will keep spending that much to film this show?
– All the characters. There isn’t anyone I dislike, at least not yet (I never watched Mad Men so didn’t have any dislike for Jessica Pare going in).
– Dita the dog. What a fantastic idea to have a dog like that on the show!
– The show has real veterans consulting and appearing on the show
– That they just dropped us into the middle of the story (military lingo and all) from the beginning and they expect the audience to be smart enough to catch on
Cons:
– I see zero chemistry between David and the actress who plays Jason’s wife Alana. She isn’t even listed as main cast (she has a recurring guest role) so I’m not sure what they intend for her. Normally I would want to see the marriage survive but without any chemistry it might not go over well on a TV show.
– I don’t see any chemistry between Jessia Pare and David either, certainly not anything like he had with Emily in the Bones pilot. I once read that DB could create chemistry with a lamppost (I do think he had it with Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy) but maybe it just isn’t going to happen this time…certainly not anything he had with Emily from the pilot onwards.
– I think we really need to start learning more about the characters on this show. As of the 5th episode we know very little…Jason is tortured by memories of his buddy getting killed, he is intense, Ray is his friend, he is annoyed by Clay Spenser. We know that Mandy (Jessica Pare) is driven and doesn’t have much time for a personal life. We know next to nothing about Sonny or Lisa.
– I think at this point we almost know more about Clay Spenser (Max Theriot) that we do about Jason Hayes. Max almost seems to be elevated to co-star of this show…not sure if that’s intentional or not.
Overall I love still seeing DB on the show and seeing his tweets and Instagrams so I’m happy it’s going to stay on the air for now.

I too was let down by the fact that Jason didn’t apologize to Beau…not because Jason was wrong about tactics, but because he was being as much of a jerk as Beau was. So, they use the episode to call out “white privelege” and the difficulty of minorities in the Nave SEALs, but then have the black guy being the only one who apologizes? What??? This was not a good episode.
Also, it looks like SEAL team ratings are falling and some are beginning to question it’s renewal hopes:

I’ll stay this…I think it’s kind of odd to introduce liberal talking points in a show that more-than-likely appeals to conservative, middle of America families.
Sounds like they are falling into the SN trap of lecturing their audience. I just want shows to concentrate on making interesting and compelling stories, not telling me how to live and what to think. I have not yet started the show but they’re in my DVR, so I may skip that episode!
I wonder how DB would feel if the Seals show got pulled. He has never been on a failing show! I guess movies are a different story though…. 🙂

Exactly! It’s not even that the point was necessarily bad, but it was very jarring how it was brought up and didn’t really fit into the flow of the episode. The whole thing became very preachy instead of just being good television, which definitely happened on Bones as well. We all know SN could write great episodes, but his preachy ones were just awful!

Agree with everything you said Estella. Even though my dvr did not record the first half of the show for some reason, I caught the main parts. Focus more on the dog, LOL, and DB’s character. Love angsty DB. I enjoyed the last part where he went to visit the girlfriend of Nate and shared a cup of tea with her

I’m having a problem with the way they set this show up. I don’t see any chemistry between DB and his wife, but I don’t want to see them break up and the family fall apart. I know that happens in real life, but I like my TV characters to be a little more noble. I (almost) always like Booth because he was the good guy…he tried to be a good guy with Rebecca and even Hannah. Hate to see Jason divorced and not living with his kids, if the show goes there.
I do think there is the beginning of some chemistry between DB and Jessica Pare, so maybe they are headed for a romance, but if that happens it will be at the expensive of Jason’s family staying whole.
Not sure why the writers set it up this way…I feel like they created a problem for themselves that didn’t need to be.

Yeah, I’m not loving that Alana makes her warrior husband sleep on a friend’s couch for the few nights that he is actually home, which means not only is he away from her he also isn’t getting to spend time with his children. I was rooting for this marriage, but I read an interview recently with showrunner Benjamin Cavell and he said that they won’t shy away from showing marriages falling apart and ending in divorce because that is often what happens in real life. My bet is that Jason’s marriage is doomed and he’ll hook up with Mandy, or perhaps he’ll just have a fling with her while still trying to fix his marriage.

I saw the new SEALteam discussion threads for seasons 1 and 2 (and I do hope there will be a season 2…fingers crossed that we hear a renewal announcement soon.) I certainly don’t like the show as much as I loved Bones, but it’s nice to see DB each week. Without him we would lose all connection to Bones folks…:(.
