The Bikini in the Soup (6×14)

Directed by: Ian Toynton

Written by: Lyla Oliver

Honestly, this is another pretty unexciting case. In the midst of murder solving, the team is trying to figure out their Valentine’s Day plans. Brennan gets multiple offers for plans over the phone. Cam has Paul, Hodgins has Angela, Clark has his lady friend…But this is the most important plan right here:

We open the scene with Booth shooting up a “love” sign alone on Valentine’s Day. But he’s not alone for long!

BOOTH: Bones, what are you doing here?

BRENNAN: This is my Valentine’s Day gift to you.

BOOTH: Come on, Bones.

BRENNAN: Just open it.

BOOTH: What is it?

BRENNAN: Just open it.

BOOTH: Always wanted to fire one of these.

BRENNAN: Well, you told me that Valentine’s was all about the Valentine’s Day Massacre for you, so I thought… Is this a good idea? I got them from the Roaring ’20s exhibit.

BOOTH: Great idea.

BOOTH: Ah, you ready, Bones?

BRENNAN: Ready. Happy Valentine’s Day Massacre, Booth.

*I kinda like this period of feeling each other up—I mean out—post Hannah. Brennan knows that Booth is feeling weird post-breakup and while she could probably have a fine night out with anyone else, she is a good friend in this moment. She doesn’t push Booth about his feelings, or her own. Just a non-romantic (but kind of romantic) activity together. Very sweet.

  1. YAY!!! New episode. ^ Love the pics bnb!! Booth with a big gun is always hot! The pic of Brennan smiling at Booth…she cannot hide how she feels about him.

Some thoughts from Sara on GMMR-
“Surprisingly, the biggest revelation from Brennan came not from one of her scenes with Booth but from her scene at the lab with Cam. After Cam’s snarky comment on not being alone, Brennan flinched a bit, acknowledged Cam was correct and left the lab platform, indicating to me that she is not fine being alone (something she attested to in this episode and in general this season). Cam apologized, which was good, but I believe that spurred Brennan on to make an effort toward Booth.

That effort was in the form of showing up where he’d said he would be (the gun range) with Thompson submachine guns, or “Tommy Guns.” Booth is surprised; he’s always wanted to shoot one of those. Brennan says he’s told her that before.

We’ve discussed before what might happen if Brennan decides to go after Booth, and I think this episode was an example of that. I also believe Booth got a little glimmer of it, too.”

First episode post break up with Hannah. I was on pins and needles waiting for something to happen between the two of them!

BOOTH: Bones, what are you doing here?
BRENNAN: This is my Valentine’s Day gift to you. (meaning I love you) ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Brennan knows what Booth likes. Remember the phone gift idea she gave Hannah?
The best is yet to come…

    • jmg, I totally agree with your observations. It is a totally ‘role reversal’ situation. Booth spent 5 years feeding Brennan’s ego and mostly taking her guff knowing that he could not rush her. Now it is Brennan’s time to move slow sending signals that maybe she was willing to see if there could be more. Not making the first move, but giving him time to sort thru everything.

      • Yay Paul!!

        Everyone, stay healthy!!!
